By 'eck! Wallace & Gromit Achieves 10,000 Supporters on LEGO Ideas
7th December 2022
Wallace & Gromit is the latest project on LEGO Ideas to have gained enough support to be in the running to become an official set.
The project is based on the famous animated duo's house at 62 West Wallaby Street. The interior of the building consists of their living room, kitchen, and hallway on the lower floor, while upstairs you can find the bedrooms of Wallace and Gromit, and the bread factory from A Matter of Loaf and Death. In each room there are objects from their adventures, including the Techno-Trousers, crackers, and train track, making this a real treat for fans of the inventors.
There is also a space under the floorboards that includes references to short films from the series, such as a rat with sunglasses from A Grand Day Out and some balls of wool, as seen in A Close Shave.
Parked in the driveway is the colourful Anti-Pesto van from their feature length film, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
The project includes minifigures of Wallace and Gromit, and brick built versions of Shaun the Sheep, Hutch the rabbit, and the angry coin-operated robot from A Grand Day Out.
It's a shame that none of Wallace and Gromit's contraptions have been built into the set design, as it would have been cool to have their tilting beds that they frequently use to make a quick getaway in times of emergency. Having stairs connecting the upstairs and downstairs would also benefit the playability. If this project was chosen for production, it's likely that LEGO would want to make some significant alterations, and perhaps take inspiration from the Home Alone set to bulk up the build. This would mean increasing the piece count substantially from the 2,002 that are currently used.
Being an English creation, the popularity of Wallace and Gromit is much greater in the UK than Europe and North America, as the comedy is geared towards a British audience. This is likely to hinder this project's chances of being successful at the review stage as product demand is a key criteria used to judge projects.
