The Animated Series Gotham City set has been officially announced today and will be available to buy from 1st April (4th April if you're not yet an Insiders member) to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Batman.

When I saw this set rumoured, with its 4,000+ piece count, I was expecting a modular style build, like Marvel have had with the Daily Bugle, Sanctum Sanctorum, and Avengers Tower, but instead with have a LEGO Art-style set. So while today's announcement is somewhat of a disappointment, the set still looks promising. It borrows the 3D art element that previous sets, such as The Starry Night, have used to great effect.

There are also four unique minifigures of Batman, Catwoman, The Joker and Harley Quinn.

What is disappointing is the $300 price tag, which is remarkably expensive considering the set makes use of lots of tiny pieces. However, it does offer something unique, but whether that and the minifigures are enough to convince Batman fans to buy it, remains to be seen.
