The Great Temple of Abu Simbel Reaches 10,000 Supporters on LEGO Ideas
7th September 2023
The Great Temple of Abu Simbel has gained 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas and now enters the third review round of 2023, where it could become an official set.
The project depicts the temple commissioned by Ramesses II that sits on the edge of Lake Nasser in Egypt.
The build consists of around 3000 pieces and measures 40cm x 28.8cm x 28.8cm.
The entrance shows the four giant Ramesses statues while at the rear there is a bas-relief of Ramesses shooting arrows from a chariot.
The temple also includes a puzzle that needs to be solved to obtain a key that can be used to open a secret chamber containing gold and ancient artefacts.
Along with the temple, there are two minifigures of King Ramesses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari and two sarcophagi where they can be hidden.
We haven't had any Egyptian inspired sets since the Pharaoh's Quest theme, which was discontinued at the end of 2011, so historical LEGO fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for this project.
The Great Temple of Abu Simbel joins the Modular Heritage Museum as the only other project to have currently made it to the third review round of 2023.
