The Old Train Engine Shed Achieves 10,000 Supporters
1st July 2022
The Old Train Engine Shed has achieved 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas, meaning it’s a contender for being turned into an official set.
The set’s designer is Mind the Brick who is a serial Ideas project submitter, and this isn’t the first of their projects to make it into the review stage. John’s Medieval Watermill passed the 10K threshold last year but unfortunately failed to get final approval from LEGO.
The build features an old railway shed and its mechanics carrying out routine maintenance on trains during night shifts. A GKR Type 1 Schienentrabi (Gleiskraftrad) is the vehicle under inspection as we join them, which was a small German vehicle developed in the late 1950s to carry out route maintenance. The project is a diorama type build, with the track width being too small to integrate into any of LEGOs own railway-based sets, so it’s therefore intended to be a display piece.
The project depicts a night-time setting so there is a big lighting component. If The Old Train Engine Shed comes out on top in the second review of 2022, its going to be a challenge for LEGO to stay faithful to the original design, as they are yet to produce an official set with any significant lighting built in. The feasibility of this is likely to be a key factor in whether the project gets approved.
