Following on from leaked images that surfaced a week and a bit ago, we now have the official reveal of the 41838 Family Travel Moments set. If you're not up to speed on the US version of LEGO Masters, this set is based on the winning design from season 4 that saw Chris (better known as Duckbricks) and Robert become champions. However, this is a loose adaptation of that design, given that the original build was 8ft long and 8ft wide.

This set sees the emergence of a new Family theme, and time will tell if more sets follow in its wake. As you can guess from the name, this set is designed for collaborative building and it's aimed at the more casual LEGO fan. As well as appealing to families, it may also appeal to the traveller market, which in this day and age is a lot of us.

There have been a lot of tourist centric sets that have been highly successful (i.e. New York City) and have consequently stuck around on shelves for seemingly forever. This set is unlikely to follow in their footsteps as it perhaps represents the worst family set of the year so far. 10.5p / 12.2c per piece sounds pretty bad, but when you consider that most of the parts in this set are small plates and tiles, this is downright outrageous. If LEGO wants to lure more casual builders into the hobby, this is questionable tactics.

If you're not put off by the price and really want a place to pin your polaroids to, then this set is available for pre-order now. Criticisms aside though, ironically this set gives us one of the best aeroplane models of late and I like it's cuteness and that of the micro-scale vehicles

If you want to keep ahead of all the sets rumoured or known to be releasing over the rest of this year, you can check out our 2024 sets tracker.
