Following on from the official reveal of the 42172 McLaren P1 yesterday, LEGO have unveiled another large-scale Technic set that will also be arriving on shelves at the beginning of August. The 42177 Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line has 2,891 pieces and measures in at 22 cm (8.5 in.) high, 43 cm (16.5 in.) long and 20 cm (8 in.) wide. This is the same scale at which the now retired 42110 Land Rover Defender was built, ensuring that the two will look great on display next to one another.

The Mercedes-Benz G 500 set commemorates the 45th anniversary of the real-world vehicle. Details of the model include a 6-cylinder engine and a gearbox that has a forward, neutral, and reverse setting. As you would expect, the set also features full suspension.

The Mercedes-Benz G 500 is a car I most associate with a black colour scheme, but I think the reddish-orange was a great choice for this set. I can see some people wishing it had come in a more muted colour though.

This is the third large off-roader LEGO have released in the space of five years, with the 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 being the other one that came out in April last year.
