Is the LEGO Speed Champions Lamborghini Countach (76908) a Good Investment Set?
14th February 2023
In this article we take a look at the LEGO Lamborghini Countach and consider whether it's a set you should be buying if you're looking to make a profit. So without further ado, let's get into the review.
The set
Choosing the Lamborghini Countach as the basis for a Speed Champions set was a great move, as it's one of the best looking cars ever made in my humble opinion.
When looking at this model, the iconic 1980s design is instantly recognisable, something which cannot be said for many sets from the theme. From pretty much every angle the exotic styling has been accurately recreated, which is what makes this one of the best, if not the best, Speed Champions set thus far.
To achieve this great level of realism, LEGO made use of some ingenious construction techniques to create all the angles and get them to sit flush together. The limits of the LEGO system were well and truly tested, and in places, it's hard to see where it could be improved.
One place where there is room for improvement is the windscreen, as the white printing is a different shade to the rest of the car. Although this is inexcusable, I don't think it detracts from the overall appearance too much and it's the only major criticism of what is a fantastic set.
Taking the windscreen off reveals a bright red colour scheme, which you can just being made of premium leather.
The Countach retails for £19.99 / $19.99 / €24.99 and has 262 pieces, giving a price per piece of 7.6p / 7.6c / 9.5c. This is standard pricing now for Speed Champions sets and represents reasonable value for money..

The Minifigures
Minifigures have never been a big reason for buying Speed Champions set, as they typically have fairly uninspiring printing of racing or mechanic overalls. The single minifigure in this set is again nothing special but looks nice enough, and his leather bomber jacket suits the retro nature of the car well.
Unique Parts
Like many Speed Champions sets, the majority of the on-brick details are created using stickers, with the windscreen and the wheels being the only printed and unique parts. As mentioned earlier, I have some reservations about the windscreen, but the wheels look good and would improve the look of many custom-made cars.
Outlook
Many of the Speed Champions sets have proved to be good investments that now sell for several times their original RRP. This isn't surprising given that a two or three times increase still makes them affordable to most people, and supercars are popular amongst a wide range of people. Their relatively small size also makes them perfect display models and easy to showcase side-by-side.
With the Lamborghini Countach being one of the best Speed Champions sets, I think it's investment potential is high and isn't one to be missed. The original car is one of the most stylish and eccentric pieces of automotive design, which has contributed to it being an all-time classic. This means it's likely to be a desirable set in the years to come for anyone that missed out on buying it first time round.
TLDR
Investment opportunity: Great
This is one of the best executed Speed Champions sets and one of my personal favourites. It's an excellent replica of a beautiful supercar that was posted on many on a child's bedroom wall back in the 1980s and 1990s. It's a set that's likely to be popular amongst older and younger LEGO collectors, so I expect it to perform very well after it retires.
My only reservation is that it's expected to stay on shelves until the end of 2024, which gives it a longer shelf life that most Speed Champions sets. However, I think the set's good enough that this won't matter.
Being one of the cheaper and smaller sets, means it's also more affordable and much easier to package and ship to potential buyers, which are two more reasons why I would recommend buying this set as an investment!
