Jaws Achieves 10,000 Supporters
8th November 2022
The latest project on LEGO Ideas to reach enough support to potentially become an official set, is Jaws
The project is based on the classic Steven Spielberg movie from 1975, about an ocean-going team trying to hunt a gigantic great white shark that's attacking beachgoers. The design features a brick-built version of Jaws and ORCA, the boat used to track the shark. ORCA is full of details that make for a very accurate replica of the onscreen boat, including the famous yellow barrels used to lure Jaws to the surface.
The project also includes minifigures of the three main characters, police chief Martin Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper, and professional shark hunter Quint.
The creator is Diving Faces, who has previously reached the 10K threshold with the same project. Comparing this project to the last version of Jaws reveals that there are only minor changes to the design. Whether these will be enough to convince LEGO to give it the go ahead second time round remains to be seen, but personally I think it quite unlikely. There are also many factors on which a project is judged, other than those relating to design and build. These include expected demand and licensing possibilities, which may be where this project suffered last time.
Jaws joins the 21 other projects that have already made it to the third and final review round of 2022. The full list of supported projects is provided below:
