LEGO Collectible Minifigures Just Got Harder to Collect
24th September 2023
The latest LEGO Collectible Minifigure series to be released, Marvel Series 2, saw a transition to cardboard packaging. This has made it a whole lot harder for LEGO fans to feel their way to getting every character.
However, several different identification methods surfaced, including reading barcodes, weighing the boxes, shaking the boxes to listen to the sounds of different parts hitting the cardboard… the list goes on.
Most of these theories and techniques have proven to be misguided or entirely impractical. But you might as well forget them altogether now, as one British supermarket has started putting them inside security boxes.

Reddit user amogl has shared pictures from a Tesco store that shows the Marvel Series 2 packets trapped inside the plastic cases.
This is in response to customers ripping open the cardboard boxes, taking out the minifigures they want, and discarding the empty packaging. It's likely that the measures taken by Tesco will be rolled out across over retailers in an attempt to stop minifigure thieves.
It could even lead to third party retailers from stopping the sale of LEGO minifigures altogether, which would be a sad outcome.
It looks like the only option will soon be to keep your fingers crossed and hope to get lucky, or shell out a bit extra and buy each character individually on the secondary market.
