"At last, a proper LEGO Gringotts!". That's what every LEGO Harry Potter fan will be saying following the official release of the Gringotts™ Wizarding Bank - Collectors' Edition, which will hit shelves on 1st September.
Before today, it was a cause of indignation amongst LEGO Potterheads that the iconic location from the Wizarding World had only received the LEGO treatment on three previous occasions. One of those was a microscale depiction and another was a minimist recreation from the dawn of the theme that's now over twenty years old. You have to go back to 2011 for a decent model of the bank, and even then it was lumped in with Ollivanders, Borgin and Burkes.
A set dedicated solely to the bank and its countless secrets and treasures has been on the wishlists of many AFOLs for some time. However, I think we can all agree that it was worth the wait, as the Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition is an amazing looking set.
The build is split over two levels with above and below ground sections. The above ground part includes the Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon from the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 movie, the bank's foyer and mezzanine floor, and the Magical Menagerie shop next door.
The subterrain section has three vaults, including number 713 that Harry and Hagrid visit in the Philosopher's Stone and Bellatrix Lestrange's vault housing the Hufflepuff cup. There is also a minecart that travels down a spiralling track and stops at each vault.
The building itself can be separated from the vaults and caverns to make Gringotts compatible with 75978 Diagon Alley.
The set has 13 minifigures, including two versions of Harry, Hagrid, Griphook, Dragomir Despard/Ron Weasley, Bellatrix Lestrange/Hermione Granger, Bogrod, Ricbert, two goblins, two guards, and a Death Eater.
With 4,803 pieces, it's the fourth largest Harry Potter set to date. It will be available from 1 September for VIPs and 4 September for everyone else, and will retail for £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99 from the Official LEGO® Shop.
