The LEGO Group officially revealed the next set that will be released under the Ideas theme. The Motorised Lighthouse will be available to purchase from September 1 and will contain 2,065 pieces for a retail price of £264.99 / $299.99 / €299.99.

The set’s designer was Sandro Quattrini, who was inspired to create a lighthouse from trips with his mother to the Gaspé Peninsula, a region of the province of Quebec, Canada that is home to a wide array of lighthouses.

The set is built to minifigure scale and reaches a height of 54cm. The lighthouse is built into a rocky outcrop with steps down to the pier and a cave containing pirate’s treasure. There’s also a nice white paddleboat and a lighthouse keeper and sailor minifigures. The building itself consist of three levels which we are pleased to see are navigable thanks to the addition of ladders on each floor. While the front of the model shows a complete exterior, the back is left open to improve playability and allow easy viewing of the nicely detailed and cosy interior.

The set also features a battery box, a medium motor and cable with lights to power the both the lighthouse’s rotating light and the cottage’s glowing fireplace. To increase the realism of the model, a new Fresnel lens element was created to help concentrate the light from the light brick. These are fantastic features that we can’t wait to see in action.

In our opinion, this is one of the Ideas set, both in terms of display value and playability, that we have seen from the Ideas range.
