Board game lovers can rejoice, as LEGO have unexpectedly revealed the 40719 Traditional Chess Set. While I love many of the themed chess sets LEGO have given us over the years (mainly as a source of minifigures), it's refreshing to get a brick-based chess set you'd actually want to use for playing the game.

The colour scheme looks fantastic, and with the board coming in at 30cm x 30cm, it's also a comfortable size to use and display. And if you don't mind rebuilding it every time you travel, it's also highly portable!

The set consists of 743 pieces, some of which are counters for playing draughts / checkers. For that you'll pay £64.99 / $74.99 / €74.99, so it's definitely not the cheapest chess set you're ever going to buy, but as LEGO goes this set is ok value for money.
