Motorized Howl's Moving Castle Achieves 10,000 Supporters on LEGO Ideas
16th January 2023
The Motorized Howl's Moving Castle has become the latest project to reach 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas and is now in with a chance of becoming an official set.
The project is a 1:100 scale replica of the giant fictional kingdom from the acclaimed Japanese animated movie, built using around 2,000 pieces. It's therefore built to micro-scale, but manages to integrate features from the onscreen city, such as the large turret-like structures and mysterious back door.
Just like in the movie, the castle moves on giant mechanic legs, but the movement doesn't stop there. This model also features a motorized system, allowing the castle's mouth to open and close, and its tongue, side panels, and chimney to all move simultaneously. You can see this in action on YouTube.
The project doesn't include any minifigures, but the project's designer suggests it could include Howl, Sophie, Markl, Calcifer, and the Scarecrow.
2024 will mark the movie's 20th anniversary, and if LEGO loves anything, it's an anniversary, which could help this project's chances of making it to production. If it did come out on top in the first review round of 2023, it would be LEGO's first Studio Ghibli set, and anime fans will hope this could pave the way for more.
Motorized Howl's Moving Castle joins six other projects that have already reached the 10K mark. These are:
